On 15 July 2018 Mohamed Mansaray a teacher at New York Secondary School allegedly sexually abused a 15 years old JSS 2 pupil at Calaba Town in the Eastern area of Freetown.
He was arrested and charged with Sexual Penetration of a Child contrary to Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No.12 of 2012.
On 14 August 2018 the victim during her testimony at Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court identified the accused. She said on the 15 July 2018 she was ill and took excuse from school authorities and on her way going home from school, the accused asked her to go home with him but she refused. The accused then told the victim’s friend to persuade the victim and secretly take her to his house.
She went to the accused house and he sexually abused her for two days. The accused then accompanied the victim to her parents after two days. The father and the victim reported the matter at the Calaba Town Police Station.
The defence counsel M. Beretay pleaded with the presiding Magistrate Abdul Sheriff to grant the accused bail. The prosecutor G.Sesay objected to the application. The accused was not granted bail and was sent on remand to the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
