Sierra Leone international model, philanthropist and actress, Naomi Iye Kargbo based in Istanbul, Turkey will be representing Sierra Leone in this year’s Rainbow of the World Beauty Pageant to be hosted in Albania.
In an interview with AYV, she stated among many other things how she came to be Sierra Leone’s representative at such an important international event.
According to Naomi, she has a natural talent for modeling which was noticed in her at a tender age and nurtured as she grew older. She said she is a blue-blooded Sierra Leonean woman who has seen the good, bad and ugly sides of life for the average woman in Sierra Leone.
She completed primary, secondary education in Sierra Leone and was later admitted to Fourah Bay College. She said she is currently pursuing education in political science at a private university in Yokyo.
She agreed that the contest in Albania would be tough with rivals from across the world participating. She added that this is the first time Sierra Leone is being represented after she was nominated. She added that fans and supporters can vote for her by logging onto her facebook page and that she is also looking forward to physical and moral support from all Sierra Leoneans for her to succeed.
On what makes her different from the other contestants, Naomi proudly said: “I am a unique person being a Sierra Leonean and Sierra Leoneans are special people. But apart from being a Sierra Leonean, I am a very hospitable and considerate person and I have a very compassionate and simple heart. This is not something I grabbed. It is something that I was born with. I am a whole package of so many things.”
She went on to say she strongly believes in young girls and what they can achieve and so like she did in 2016 when she won the beauty pageant in Turkey, she returned home to see how she can invest her money and her time by establishing her Naomi Kay Foundation through which young Sierra Leone girls have the opportunity of transforming themselves to become good, prosperous and responsible citizens; as well as instilling self confidence into them for future public life.
She promised to do the same when she emerges victorious at the beauty pageant in Albania, adding that she would always be ready to empower girls in need and under privileged young girls. She said that she is happy moreover for the fact that public perception about models has now changed from negative to positive which she said has given her the necessary impetus to do more for young women and girls in Sierra Leone.
