Multiple Deaths Recorded In Freetown Accident Involving Sierra Leone Soldiers

Five soldiers and three civilians died today in a road accident at Spur Road in Freetown after a military truck they were traveling in veered off the road.

According to the head of the military medical wing, Lt Col Dr Stephen Sevalie, they were going to the Army War Graves to bury one of their colleagues when the accident happened.

He said an unspecified number of others were critically injured and admitted at the 34 Military Hospital.

This is believed to be the single highest number of military casualties in the country since the end of the war in 2002.
