70-Year-Old Man Who Raped 13-Year-Old Girl In Freetown Released After Two Days In Prison

Just days after the country’s First Lady launched a campaign especially against sexual assault on girls, a high court in Freetown has sentenced to TWO DAYS a 70-year-old man convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl.

70-year-old Abdul Conteh, a care taker of the victim’s parents was yesterday sentenced to two days imprisonment at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre by Justice John Bosco Allieu for the offense of sexual penetration of a child.

According to Justice John Bosco Alieu, the 70-year-old accused person is abnormal and it was confirmed by the Psychiatric Doctor, and that if he sentenced the accused person at his age to ten years imprison he will surely not live. So he therefore sentenced the accused person to two days imprison as he was found guilty of the offence he was charged.

The accused person was before the court on one count indictment of sexual penetration of a child contrary to law.
According to the particulars of offense the accused person on diverse dates between March and December 2015 in Freetown penetrated a child under the age of 18 to wit 14.

The man, a watchman for his victim’s parents, will walk free on Wednesday. It’s not clear why the lenient sentence, but sources following the case say the judge had cast doubt over the man’s mental state.

The sentence has drawn rage from gender rights activists who say it’s reason, if anyone needs it, why predators seem to be on the prowl.
